Therese Adam

Board member

Ambassador (ret.) Therese Adam, Dipl. Eng. Agr. ETHZ, brings 28 years of experience as a Swiss diplomat, and is currently a lecturer and researcher in global governance and diplomacy. Her areas of expertise include political analysis, diplomacy, conflict prevention, facilitation of peace processes and post-conflict reconstruction, the peace-security and sustainable development nexus and the UN Agenda 2030, human rights and rule of law, gender, urban safety and transnational organized crime. She has headed short- and long-term missions to more than 40 countries in Europe and Eurasia, Africa and Latin America.

As the head of the Global Environment Division at the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), she focused on issues such as the sustainable use of natural resources, agricultural research, prevention of natural disasters, sustainable development and the Rio Conventions. As Assistant Director General of SDC, she headed the Cooperation with Eastern Europe in charge of Switzerland’s support to transition towards democracy, market economy, social and environmental sustainability and the enlarged contributions of the new member states of the European Union.
